A research paper co-authored by Assistant Professor Insung Seo of the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Shimane University, has been featured on the front cover of ACS Nano, Volume 20, Issue 28. The study was conducted by an international research team from Croatia, Italy, and Japan.
The team investigated how lithium interacts with borophene, a next-generation two-dimensional material only one atom thick. By combining advanced experiments with density functional theory calculations, the researchers found that lithium donates electrons to borophene and significantly modifies its atomic structure. These findings provide important insights into controlling the properties of borophene and its potential use in future electronic and energy-related materials.
Assistant Professor Seo contributed primarily through the density functional theory calculations, and an atomic structure obtained from the calculations was also used in the cover design.
ACS Nano has a Journal Impact Factor of 17.3 and is ranked in the top 10% in all four relevant categories in the 2025 Journal Citation Reports.
